The Idea of three step sparring is to understand distance, timing, focus, and correct technique.

Both players face each other and at the command of attention bow, they bow. One player will take the correct measure as below, then at the command of 3 step sparring ready, the attacker takes the right leg back to perform a left walking stance left low outer forearm side block. The defence moves the left foot into parallel ready stance, both shouting “YA”.

Measure Up

  • 1&2=HALF FOOT IN WALKING STANCE
  • 3&4=QUARTER FOOT IN WALKING STANCE
  • 5=HALF FOOT IN WALKING STANCE
  • 6=QUARTER FOOT IN L-STANCE
  • 7&8=HEEL TO HEEL IN WALKING STANCE
  • 9=FOOT OVERLAP COMPLETELY
  • 10=QUARTER FOOT IN L-STANCE
