HSTS Taekwon-Do All Day Training – Saturday 8th March 2025
This past Saturday, on the 8th of March 2025, students from HSTS Taekwon-Do gathered for an intense and rewarding all-day training session. It was a fantastic opportunity for all grades to refine their skills, test their endurance, and immerse themselves in every aspect of the Taekwon-Do grading criteria. From the first bow to the final break, the energy and enthusiasm were evident throughout the day.
Fundamentals
The day kicked off with an in-depth fundamentals session. Under the guidance of Master Horan, students focused on perfecting their stances, strikes, blocks, and kicks. Precision, power, and proper execution were emphasised, ensuring that everyone had a solid foundation to build upon for the rest of the day. Fundamentals are the backbone of Taekwon-Do, and the dedication shown by each student highlighted their commitment to improvement.
Patterns (Tul)
Following fundamentals, we moved onto patterns. Students worked on their respective Tuls, from Chon-Ji to more advanced patterns for the higher dan grades. Master Horan provided detailed feedback on technique, breathing, rhythm, and power, reinforcing the importance of patterns in developing discipline and control. The two grade groups allowed everyone to push themselves while benefiting from the collective energy in the room.
Set Sparring
Set sparring is a crucial component of the grading syllabus, and this session allowed students to refine their pre-arranged movements with partners. From three-step (Sambo) to one-step (Ilbo) sparring, students drilled their combinations, focusing on accuracy, speed, and control. This section of training was particularly valuable in reinforcing distancing, timing, and correct execution of techniques in a structured environment.
Self-Defence
Next came self-defence training, an essential part of Taekwon-Do. Students practiced various releases, joint locks, and counter-attacks designed for real-life scenarios. Emphasis was placed on practicality, efficiency, and adaptability, ensuring that students understood how to react quickly and effectively if needed. The hands-on approach made this session particularly engaging and insightful.
Free Sparring
A high-energy free sparring session followed, testing students’ agility, reaction time, and strategic thinking. Students from 6th kup and above had the opportunity to apply their techniques in a controlled, competitive environment. Respect and control were paramount, ensuring that everyone could challenge themselves safely while developing their sparring abilities.
Power Breaking
The final section of the training was dedicated to power breaking, a true test of technique, accuracy, and mental focus. Some students attempted various breaking techniques, applying some of what they had learned throughout the day. The thrill of successfully breaking a board after concentrated effort was a fitting way to conclude an intensive and rewarding training session.
Conclusion
The HSTS Taekwon-Do All Day Training was filled with learning, perseverance, and camaraderie. It was inspiring to see students of all ages and grades pushing their limits and supporting one another throughout the sessions. A big thank you to all participants for making the day so memorable.
We look forward to the next event and continuing our journey in Taekwon-Do together. Keep training hard, and we’ll see you in class!
